Disney Fantasy Information Coming Soon

On Monday, October 18, Disney Cruise Line will be having two webcasts for travel agents called “Launching a Dream.”

We have agents that will be attending the first webcast on Monday at 12:00 noon Eastern Time to be able to get you all the details as soon as we have them.

During this webcast, Disney will share information about the Disney Dream™, the newest ship in the Disney Cruise Line® fleet and:

* Share a sneak peek of what’s going on in the shipyard in Germany
* Explore what’s new at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island paradise
* Announce the itinerary plans for our fourth ship, the Disney Fantasy™

We can’t wait to bring you this information so check out our blog Monday afternoon for more info! We are hoping DCL will also release the booking dates for 2012 sailings.

We also will have agents on the Christening Cruise and Maiden Voyage for the Disney Dream™ to bring you first hand information on this new ship.

Cruising… Celebrity Style!

This summer I took my first Celebrity Cruise.  Because of the deal available, we booked an Aqua Class room.  It as intriguing to be in a concierge type room without the extra expense of a suite.  This would also be the largest ship we have been on.

We invited another couple to join us and we got two Aqua Class rooms side by side.  Without detailing the trip, I instead want to evaluate the ship and cruise line.

Check in at the port was painless and fairly quick.  We all lined up based on the category of room booked.  Our sea passes were ready for us and because we did online check in, the process was quick.  When we boarded the ship, our photo was taken and linked to the sea pass.

As we got onboard, we were offered a glass of champagne or orange juice.  We boarded late so our rooms were ready.  I was impressed at the size and layout of the room.  The doors also opened opposite of what I expected.  The entry opened to the hall.  The bathroom opened into the room.  This seemed to work very well.  I was not impressed with the closet however.  It was difficult to get at things in the bottom of the far side due to the sofa.

The chairs on the verandah were comfortable.  We were able to have our cabin steward open the divider.  This was nice to be able to share the space but only the end of the divider opens so you cannot see your neighbors unless you are at the railing.

We decided to try the Bistro on Five.  This restaurant offers crepes and paninis.  The service charge is $5.00 per person.  I would definitely recommend this location as an alternative to the buffet on embarkation for a more relaxed experience.

There were only two banks of elevators.  This wasn’t as much of a problem as I thought it might be.  In the public areas there were staircases between some of the floors.

The layout of the ship made the ship seem not so large.  The areas were divided in a way so it seemed smaller.  We found out however on the last night just how long the ship was when I needed to go from Silk Harvest (aft) to our room (forward) for medicine.

My only complaint about the layout is that in the public areas on decks 3, 4 and 5 had very little natural light from outside.  Only by the Atrium were there many windows.  It was a few days onboard before I realized there was a deck outside on deck 5.

The casino was a pleasant surprise.  Smoking was not permitted in here. It was nice to walk by and not smell the smoke.  The odds weren’t any better inside however.

We participated in the Celebrity Life program which got us into many of the venues on the ship.  This was a great way to see it all.  We also were able to eat in nearly all of the venues.  I was very happy with nearly all the food we had, but I did find Blu to lack the flavors I had hoped it would have.

I was disappointed by the shows offered onboard.  The quality of the shows were mediocre.  Some better than others, some worse.

While disembarkation was very smooth, I was disappointed that we had to report to the theater on deck 4 forward yet we disembarked on deck 5 aft.  It would have been nice to know this so we could just go to the upper level of the theater on deck 5 instead of dragging our carryons up the stairs to deck 5 to leave.

All in all, I found Celebrity and the Solstice to be an excellent experience.
