The First Day of ToaDmas

Card companies do it all the time — create new holidays — so why can’t we too?  Today kicks off the twelve day of ToaDmas!  Between now and Christmas the agents at Travel on a Dream will bring you ideas for vacation destinations.  Not only will they tell you about the destination, they will also give you an idea of what a vacation could cost you.  Disney vacations, all-inclusives, cruises plus land tours will all be covered.  We hope they help you with ideas for your next vacation!

Today we are going to Hawaii!  The 50th state in the United States, Hawaii is made up entirely of islands, with eight “main” islands.  We have had blogs in the past for Aulani, Disney’s newest resort on the island of Oahu.  While an Aulani vacation would be fabulous on its own, the excursions to the other islands can get pricey.  What we recommend is a cruise on Norwegian Cruise Line Pride of America followed by a relaxing three night stay at Aulani.

A cruise on Pride of America will take you from Honolulu roundtrip with stops at Maui, Hilo, Kona and Kauai.  Each stop is an overnight stay, giving you plenty of time to explore and enjoy the islands.  The first stop is Maui.  This is the perfect time to go to the summit of the “House of the Sun” and watch the sunrise on Haleakala.  You can go snorkeling, horseback riding, visit waterfalls or take a helicopter tour of the area.  The choice is yours!

The next stop is on the Big Island of Hawaii.  Here you can see the Kilauea volcano with a variety of tours.  Visit a coffee and chocolate plantation.  How about a wedding?  Or a vow renewal?  With an overnight stay, you don’t have to worry about missing the boat.  Rainbow Falls is an amazing 89 foot waterfall, just north of Hilo.

Kauai is the northernmost island in Hawaii.  You can golf, hike, fly, bike and swim through this island.  Take an ATV tour of different areas of the island including a ranch, waterfalls and beaches.  Hike up Sleeping Giant Mountain.  Scuba diving, snorkeling and fabulous beaches are all available on Kauai.

Back in Honolulu on the island of Oahu, you can visit Pearl Harbor and the USS Missouri.  Take in a traditional luau and show at the Polynesian Center.  Visit Diamond Head and the famous Waikiki Beach.

The nicest part about cruising the Hawaiian Islands is that you will be able to unpack once yet visit multiple destinations.  Your transfers from one island to another will be seamless and give you an extended period of time to experience each location.  Your meals and entertainment are included on the ship (though some specialty restaurants do have a service charge).

Once you disembark from your cruise in Honolulu, head over to Aulani and experience an island resort, Disney style!  What a great way to wind down from a week of touring.  You can take in some of the excursions you missed on the cruise or just relax on the beach or by the pool, the choice is yours.

We priced this vacation for two adults for a cruise on November 17 through 24, 2012 followed by a three night stay at Aulani.  There are a variety of room types both on the ship and at the resort.  We selected a category BB which is a balcony on a higher deck midship.  Also available are inside rooms, oceanview rooms and suites.  At Aulani, we selected an Island Gardens view room.  Also available are standard rooms, partial ocean view rooms, pool rooms and full ocean view rooms plus a variety of suites.  Not included in the quotes are airfare, gratuities, beverages, meals at Aulani, incidentals and excursions.
