Walt Disney World Dining Cancellation Policy Update

We are hearing rumors that an updated cancellation policy will be coming to Walt Disney World on October 31, 2013.  For the last couple years, signature restaurants, restaurants that offer character meals and Fantasmic packages have had a cancellation penalty if reservations were cancelled within 24 hours or you simply did not show.  On October 31, 2013, we are hearing that this will expand to all table service reservations.

Any reservations made through Disney Dining (either by phone or online) will now require a credit card to hold the reservation.  If you do not show or cancel at least 24 hours in advance by contacting Disney Dining, going to Guest Relations, a restaurant podium or by calling 407-WDW-CNCL, you will be charged $10 per person to the credit card used to hold the reservation.

This is changing due to the number of guests who make multiple reservations and then no show or cancel.  Now more than ever it is important to arrive early for your reservation and if plans change, make sure you cancel.  The easiest way to do this is through My Disney Experience on your smartphone or other mobile device when you are at Disney World.

Disney World 2013 Dining Plan Pricing

This morning Disney opened up bookings for its resort packages in 2013.  We know that ticket pricing increased in May, and expected an increase in the dining plan.  We just didn’t know how much of an increase until now.

The dining plans for 2013 will be the same as the plans offered for 2012.  The only change is the price.  For the Magic Your Way plus Quick Service dining plan, each person in the party will get 2 quick service meal credits and 1 snack credit for each night’s stay and a resort refillable drink mug.  The pricing is $37.58 for 10 and over per night and $14.32 for 3-9 year olds per night.  More information on the Quick Service Dining Plan is located here.

For the Magic Your Way plus Dining plan, each person in the party receives one snack credit, one quick service meal credit and one table service meal credit for each night’s stay and a resort refillable drink mug.  For more information on this plan, click here.  The pricing during value and regular seasons is $55.59 for 10 and over per night and $17.16 for 3-9 year olds per night.  During Peak and Holiday seasons the pricing is $56.94 for 10 and older and $18.16 for 3-9 year olds.  These peak and holiday season dates appear to be:

  • February 14 – 23, 2013
  • March 8 – April 7, 2013
  • May 31 – August 3, 2013, and
  • December 20 – 31, 2013

Finally, we have the Magic Your Way plus Deluxe Dining plan.  This plan gives you three meals and two snack credits per person, per night of your stay.  You also receive a resort refillable drink mug.  The pricing during value and regular seasons is $99.97 for 10 and over per night and $26.84 for 3-9 year olds per night.  During Peak and Holiday seasons the pricing is $102.27 for 10 and older and $28.91 for 3-9 year olds.  More information on this plan is located here.

Last Chance For Fall Free Dining At Disney World

If you have thought about going to Disney World early this fall, now is your chance to take advantage of the free dining promotion which is ending on May 18, 2012.  Until May 18, you can book a non-discounted package to Walt Disney World for travel dates between August 25 and September 29 and add on a select Disney Dining Plan for no additional cost.

For stays at a value resort, you can get the Quick Service Dining Plan for no cost.  If you select a moderate, deluxe or deluxe villa resort, you can add on the plus Dining Plan for no charge.  You can also upgrade to a higher dining plan if you choose for just the difference in cost between the plan offered for free and the one you wish to have.

Credit Cards Holds to be Required for Select Disney Dining Locations

We are working on confirming this rumor we have heard, but wanted to get the information to you as soon as possible.

Effective October 26, 2011, additional Walt Disney World restaurants will be requiring a credit card to hold reservations.  The reservations will need to be cancelled no later than 24 hours prior or a charge of $10 per person will be applied to the credit card on hold.  This change is being implemented to cut down on the number of reservation no-shows that occur at the most popular Disney dining locations.  From what we’ve heard, this will reduce the cancellation penalty window to 24 hours instead of the 48 hours for some locations, but again, this has not been confirmed by Disney yet.  Here is the list of dining locations we are anticipating will have this new requirement:

  • 1900 Park Fare
  • Akershus
  • Artist Point
  • California Grill
  • Cape May Cafe
  • Chef Mickey’s
  • Citricos
  • Crystal Palace
  • Flying Fish
  • Garden Grill
  • Hollywood & Vine
  • Hollywood Brown Derby
  • Jiko
  • Le Cellier
  • Narcoossee’s
  • ‘Ohana
  • Tusker House
  • Victoria & Albert ($25 per person cancellation penalty)
  • Yachtman Steakhouse

A special cancellation line will be set up to call your cancellations in if necessary.  That number is 407-WDW-CNCL.

What do you think of this new policy, if it comes to fruition?
