There are no changes at this time to the Disney Fantasy® scheduling.  With this schedule, unless Disney cancels some of the dates already for sale, there is not going to be a dry dock opportunity for the Disney Wonder or the Disney Dream in 2014.

Don’t forget about our onboard credit offer, available on most sailings.  Also we currently have two promotions for our birthday – one giving you double referral credit and the other with a bonus for groups.

Disney Cruise Line 2014 Changes

Yesterday we reported that select sailings on the Disney Dream would be shifting dates.  Today we are reporting that the sailings in late October 2014 through the end of 2014 on the Disney Magic will be switching to the Disney Wonder.  This is because the Disney Magic will be moving to Port Canaveral.  The Disney Wonder schedule previously was not released so this will not be affected.

So what does this all mean?   Here is my speculation:

The Disney Dream already was going to switch sailings from Thursdays and Sundays to Fridays and Mondays around Thanksgiving time.  They are now doing that sooner in October.  From that point on the Dream will be sailing on Fridays and Mondays.  It was indicated that this change is happening because the Disney Magic is moving to Port Canaveral.

We have the Disney Fantasy sailing on Saturdays.  Disney Dream will sail on Fridays and Mondays.  That leaves the remaining days of the week open for the Disney Magic to sail.  I’m guessing that the Disney Magic will sail on Sundays with Western Caribbean sailings.  Right now the Disney Fantasy’s last Western Caribbean sailing is scheduled for November 8.

I think the Disney Wonder will be going into dry dock in October.  The dry dock would be shorter than the Disney Magic’s dry dock.  I don’t think it will be for as long as the Disney Magic will be.  There are only 21 days between the Disney Wonder sailing that returns on October 10 and the next sailing on October 22.  The 2 night sailing on October 20 has been canceled and not replaced, but the October 22 sailing has been replaced.  With three weeks they either won’t do as much or they figure they’ll have it figured out how to do it quicker as the Magic will take 6 weeks.

Additionally, we have heard in the past that the Magic was too top heavy to put Outlook Cafe on it or an AquaDuck.  With the dry dock this fall, they are extending the length of the ship, presumably to allow them to add more weight to the top of the ship.  They may also be doing something with the materials on the top of the ship to lighten it up.  The Wonder doesn’t need these things to be done so it is possible that they won’t need to have as long of a dry dock.

I doubt that we will hear about a dry dock on the Wonder or the Dream before the new Disney Magic itineraries come out.  We know that modifications can be made to the existing sailings next Tuesday and Wednesday, however, we have no idea if the new sailings on the Disney Magic will be available then.  Stay tuned!

Changes for Fall 2014 Disney Dream and Magic Sailings

We have received notice this morning from Disney Cruise Line about changes to the Disney Dream schedule for October and November 2014.  Here are the date changes:

dream change

The reason given for the date changes are that the Disney Magic is moving from Miami to Port Canaveral.  With this, the Disney Dream will alter her schedule to have sailings on Monday and Friday as they can’t have two ships at the terminal on the same day.

We have not been advised of the Disney Magic changes as of yet, but expect to get word this week.  We do know however that the sailings after October 21, 2014 of both the Disney Magic and Disney Dream will be changed.  Since we see that the Disney Dream’s schedule has been removed from the booking engine for the time being, we can see that sailings from November 17, 2014 on appear to not be changing.

Some are speculating that this will allow the Disney Dream to have her drydock in October or November 2014.  I do think the Dream will go to dry dock in November, but not that the sailings for the Dream in October be switched to be on the Disney Magic.  Hopefully this will become clearer in the next couple days.

New 2014 DCL Itineraries Announced

Disney Cruise Line has finally announced the rest of the 2014 cruise itineraries.  The first half of the year were released in early December and can be found here.  This actually wasn’t that long of a wait when we look back at some recent years, but it seems like forever when you are looking for a specific itinerary or date.  We will look at what’s happening ship by ship.  But first, bookings for these itineraries will open on February 14, 2014 (opening February 13 for Platinum and Gold Castaway Club members).

Disney Magic

As was predicted, the Disney Magic will be returning to the Mediterranean to embark on exciting sailings in the summer of 2014.  Select sailings will call Venice, Italy, as her home port.  All Venice sailings will overnight in the city so you can experience the nightlife here.  Disney Magic will visit several ports of call (some for the first time), including Katakolon, Rhodes, Heraklion (Crete), Santorini and Corfu, Greece and Catania, Sicily.

On June 26 and July 5 there will be new 9-night Mediterranean Greek Isles sailings departing from Venice with visits to Katakolon, Pireaus, Kusadasi, Rhodes, Mykonos and then overnighting in Venice.

She will conclude her season in Europe with another Transatlantic sailing returning to San Juan, Puerto Rico.  Here Disney Magic will embark on four 7-night Southern Caribbean sailings with stops in Antigua, St. Lucia, Grenada, Barbados and St. Kitts.  These sailing will be September 20, 27, October 4 and October 11.

Next she will go back to Miami and continue with alternating 4, 5 and 5 night sailings to the Bahamas and Western Caribbean.  This is the same itineraries the Disney Wonder will be sailing in early 2014.

Disney Wonder

Yes, the Disney Wonder is going back to Alaska!  But before she gets there, she will be making a journey through the Panama Canal.

The first sailing out of Vancouver will be special as the Wonder will visit Sitka, Alaska for the very first time on a 9-night sailing.  Following the 9-night sailing, she will continue through the summer with 7-night Alaskan itineraries, with ports of call in Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan and a visit to Tracy Arm fjord.

The 9-night sailing will be on May 24, while the remaining of the sailings will depart on Mondays with the final Alaska sailing on September 1.

Following the Alaskan season, Disney Wonder will go back to the Caribbean and Port Canaveral!

Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream

The Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream will continue it’s schedule of Bahamas and Caribbean sailings out of Port Canaveral in the fall of 2014.

2014 Disney Cruise Watch

Any Disney cruiser like me is waiting, watching and hoping that any day now Disney will release their itineraries for 2014.  Most people are guessing that it will be January or February before we see new dates.  Based on some information I have gathered, I think we will see something before Christmas.

When I called in to Disney Cruise Lines last week, one of the agents asked me a very innocent question about my travel plans this month, specifically out of country travel.  When I said I had no plans, she recalled my trip in January.  That was when Disney released the Mediterranean itineraries for 2013.  That got me thinking and looking for other clues.  I found some significant changes to the Western Caribbean ports of call, that weren’t there before.  The last time we found changes like this, it was just a couple weeks before changes were announced to the Galveston sailings towards the end of 2013.

I must say that when Jamaica was added to select sailings in 2013, I heard from a lot of people that they would like to go to Jamaica but they did not want to sail from Galveston.  This did not spark additional interest from my clients to now book Galveston.

Let’s take a look at what we believe will not change.  We believe the Disney Dream will continue 3 and 4 night sailings to the Bahamas and the Disney Fantasy will continue 7 night sailings from Port Canaveral.  Here are the dates we anticipate:

3 – Night Bahamian Cruise

  • January 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, 2014
  • February 6, 13, 20, 27, 2014
  • March 6, 13, 20, 27, 2014
  • April 3, 10, 17, 24, 2014
  • May 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, 2014
  • June 5, 12, 19, 26, 2014
  • July 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, 2014
  • August 7, 14, 21, 28, 2014
  • September 4, 11, 18, 25, 2014
  • October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, 2014
  • November 6, 13, 20, 23, 2014
  • December 4, 11, 18, 21, 28, 2014

4 – Night Bahamian Cruise

  • January 5, 12, 19, 26, 2014
  • February 2, 9, 16, 23, 2014
  • March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, 2014
  • April 6, 13, 20, 27, 2014
  • May 4, 11, 18, 25, 2014
  • June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, 2014
  • July 6, 13, 20, 27, 2014
  • August 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, 2014
  • September 7, 14, 21, 28, 2014
  • October 5, 12, 19, 26, 2014
  • November 2, 9, 16, 26, 30, 2014
  • December 7, 14, 24, 2014

7 – Night Eastern Caribbean

  • January 11, 25, 2014
  • February 8, 22, 2014
  • March 8, 22, 2014
  • April 5, 19, 2014
  • May 3, 17, 31, 2014
  • June 14, 28, 2014
  • July 12, 26, 2014
  • August 9, 23, 2014
  • September 6, 20, 2014
  • October 4, 18, 2014
  • November 1, 15, 29, 2014
  • December13, 27, 2014

7 – Night Western Caribbean

  • January 4, 18, 2014
  • February 1, 15, 2014
  • March 1, 15, 29, 2014
  • April 12, 26, 2014
  • May 10, 24, 2014
  • June 7, 21, 2014
  • July 5, 19, 2014
  • August 2, 16, 30, 2014
  • September 13, 27, 2014
  • October 11, 25, 2014
  • November 8, 22, 2014
  • December6, 20 2014

Now for the changes.

We noticed that once again the Jamaica port calendar has changed.  There will be the same unknown ship, that turned out to be the Wonder, every other week starting May 14.  We also noticed that the Grand Cayman schedule has also changed.  The Magic is no longer on the port calendar.  Instead, only the Fantasy and Wonder will make calls on Grand Cayman.  We are seeing the Disney Wonder on the port calendar twice a month between January and April.  This would be the schedule we would expect if the Magic were continuing her schedule at the end of 2013.

With the changes to the Jamaica calendar, we anticipate that the Disney Fantasy will pick up Jamaica on Western Caribbean sailings between May and December.

Here is our prediction.  The Disney Wonder will move from Galveston back to Miami at the beginning of January.  She will then alternate 4 and 5 night sailings much the same as what the Magic is set to do at the end of 2013.  We predict a schedule like this:

  • January 10, 2014 – 5 Night Western (Grand Cayman & Cozumel)
  • January 15, 2014 – 4 Night Bahamas (Key West & Castaway Cay)
  • January 19, 2014 – 5 Night  Western (Cozumel & Castaway Cay)
  • January 24, 2014 – 5 Night Western (Grand Cayman & Cozumel)
  • January 29, 2014 – 4 Night Bahamas (Key West & Castaway Cay)
  • February 2, 2014 – 5 Night  Western (Cozumel & Castaway Cay)
  • February 7, 2014 – 5 Night Western (Grand Cayman & Cozumel)
  • February 12, 2014 – 4 Night Bahamas (Key West & Castaway Cay)
  • February 16, 2014 – 5 Night  Western (Cozumel & Castaway Cay)
  • February 21, 2014 – 5 Night Western (Grand Cayman & Cozumel)
  • February 26, 2014 – 4 Night Bahamas (Key West & Castaway Cay)
  • March 2, 2014 – 5 Night  Western (Cozumel & Castaway Cay)
  • March 7, 2014 – 5 Night Western (Grand Cayman & Cozumel)
  • March 12, 2014 – 4 Night Bahamas (Key West & Castaway Cay)
  • March 16, 2014 – 5 Night  Western (Cozumel & Castaway Cay)
  • March 21, 2014 – 5 Night Western (Grand Cayman & Cozumel)
  • March 26, 2014 – 4 Night Bahamas (Key West & Castaway Cay)
  • March 30, 2014 – 5 Night  Western (Cozumel & Castaway Cay)
  • April 4, 2014 – 5 Night Western (Grand Cayman & Cozumel)
  • April 9, 2014 – 4 Night Bahamas (Key West & Castaway Cay)
  • April 13, 2014 – 5 Night  Western (Cozumel & Castaway Cay)
  • April 18, 2014 – 5 Night Western (Grand Cayman & Cozumel)

After this we cannot predict what will happen since the ship is no longer on the port calendars.

That leaves the Disney Magic and this one is a big mystery.  Will she stay in Miami or move to another port of call?  We do think it’s possible she will stay in Miami and possibly alternate Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries.  If she does this, we anticipate there will be different ports of call than the Disney Fantasy as we are not seeing the Disney Magic on either Grand Cayman or St. Maarten’s port calendars.  She could also alternate 3 and 4 night sailings to the Bahamas or Key West.  It’s hard to say.  One thing that we anticipate if the Disney Wonder does move to Miami is that there is the potential that all four Disney ships could be on the East Coast of Florida at the same time.  If this happens, I can certainly see a rendezvous with all four!  That would be a spectacular site to see!

While we have no specific knowledge of a release date, we will suggest that this could be before Christmas since these itineraries are not dramatically different from what the ships are doing at the end of 2013.  We don’t anticipate that the entire year will be released, but could see the first half at that time.

Disney Dream Review – Double Dip Cruise

Editor’s Note:  Our client Nicole, just returned from a cruise on the Disney Dream, her second Dream cruise in just four months!  Thank you for sharing your review Nicole!

Here is my second Dream review, from the May 27th 5 night Double Dip cruise to Castaway Cay. This was my sixth DCL cruise, and second on the Dream (having done a 4 night on her in February). My parents and I had a wonderful time. It was my dad’s first cruise and now he is hooked on DCL, he can’t wait to sail again and has agreed to join me on the 12 night Eastern Mediterranean cruise on the Magic next summer! My mom, who sailed only once in 2004 on the Wonder, said she enjoyed this cruise much more than her first. We both agreed the food has improved DRAMATICALLY on DCL since our first cruise in ’04.  I remember not liking anything but the fast food options on that cruise, and now I love everything from the chicken fingers to the Chilean sea bass to the desserts! Food at CC was the best ever, we had steaks, lobster, mahi mahi, salmon, and all the usual other BBQ stuff—it was hard to fit it all in! My mom was a bit weary of doing a 5 nighter but liked it so much she has agreed to do a 7 day in 2014. I’m so glad because I don’t think I can do anything less than 7 again. The 7+ day cruises are just so much more relaxing, more time to do things, and more offerings like the classes, tastings, tours, etc, plus the real formal night is one of my highlights.

Disney Fantasy – What Do You Want To Know

Last week we attended the Christening of the Disney Fantasy®, the newest addition to the Disney Cruise Line Fleet.  While the basic blueprint for the Disney Fantasy is the same as her sister ship, Disney Dream®, there are differences from the Art Nouveau decor to the addition of Bibbiddi Bobbiddi Boutique and the extra water features.

We will be back onboard in just a bit over two weeks for a three night sailing.  Not a lot of time to explore the whole ship, but we will do our best!  Here are some ideas of what is new.  Let us know with your votes and comments what you would like us to highlight when we return. We did tour Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab and will be blogging about that in the upcoming days.
