Whirlwind Disney Trip

People say all the time they are going to take a “quick trip” somewhere.  I have friends who take a quick weekend trip to Walt Disney World.  Next week is my turn.

I will be attending the Grand Opening of the New Fantasyland, preview of Splitsville and Grand Opening of Test Track which has been reimagined.  While the highlight of the trip is the New Fantasyland Grand Opening, I am looking forward to the entire experience.

We will start the trip with a preview of Splitsville.  This state of the art bowling center will be opening late 2012.  With two floors, 30 lanes and live music, this place is sure to be a hit!

Next we’ll move onto the New Fantasyland Preview and Dinner Party.  Here we will be able to preview the new attractions, entertainment and dining in the New Fantasyland area of the Magic Kingdom Park.  We will be able to experience Celebrate the Magic, followed by Wishes and finally a holiday “kiss goodnight”.

The following day, we will attend the New Fantasyland Grand Opening, learn about new changes for the Walt Disney World Resort and end the day at the Grand Opening of Test Track Re-Imagined.

So which part of this are you most interested in?  We’ll be posting updates and reviews next week as we experience all of this, plus the holidays in Disney World.

Cars Land to Open June 15, 2012

Visitors to Disney’s California Adventure in the last few years have seen a lot of construction going on.  Well that is nearing an end with the completion date set for June 15, 2012 with the opening of Cars Land, Buena Vista Street and Carthay Circle Theater.  We are excited to see the changes!

New attractions include the Red Car Trolley, Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, Radiator Springs Racers and Luigi’s Flying Tires.  Bob Iger and Tom Staggs checked out the expansion on Tuesday.  Staggs said “This new entrance to the park will transport guests to a romantic, idealized version of 1920s Hollywood when Walt and Roy Disney first arrived in California to begin their careers as filmmakers. Buena Vista Street will be the perfect place for guests to shop and eat, watch the parade, or just sit and soak up the atmosphere.”

In preparation for the grand opening, Disney’s California Adventure will be closed on June 14, 2012.  Disneyland park, Downtown Disney District and the Disneyland Resort hotels will all remain open.

Car Rentals in Walt Disney World

This review is not all inclusive as we realize there are other agencies near Disney World.  We have focused on a select few that are the most convenient.

Our first choice for a car rental from Walt Disney World going any where, except for Port Canaveral, is Alamo.  There are two rental offices right on Disney property – one at the Walt Disney World Dolphin and the other at the Car Care Center near Magic Kingdom.  The nicest part about using Alamo is that they will pick you up at your Disney resort if you call them 24 hours in advance (when renting from the Car Care Center).  This is a great choice if you want to get a car to go to Sea World or Universal Studios for a day or you are driving in from elsewhere and want to stop at a grocery store, etc. before your stay at Disney World.  Alamo is not a good choice to Port Canaveral because they do not have a location close to the port with a courtesy shuttle at this time.  They do reimburse you for cab service, but this to me is just not as convenient.
