What’s Important To You?

In business, there are a number of different business models a company can follow.  I think of department stores for example.  You have your discount department stores — stores that sell at everyday low prices.  You don’t necessarily have to wait for a sale, the prices are most of the time lower than sale prices elsewhere.  With this model, the focus is on giving the customer the lowest prices possible.  The purchasers for the company choose brands to carry based on price only.  In order for the company to make money, they have to sell large quantities.  They may also have to offer lower wages to their employees.

On the flip side, you have department stores that are concerned with building their customer base, offering pretty much the same merchandise as the discount department stores, but they are more concerned with the quality of their products.  You might be more likely to buy the store brand at this store because you know the quality is equal to the name brands at a lower cost.

Finally, you have to higher end department stores, some of which I wouldn’t even call department stores as they really don’t have everything.  They are not a one-stop shop.  They do pride themselves on offering top quality merchandise and top customer service.  You will pay more at this store, but you won’t be disappointed with the service and merchandise you receive.

What I’m trying to say is when selecting businesses that you deal with, you need to figure out what they offer both in terms of product and service and decide what is important to you.  In travel, the same is true.  I hear a lot of stories about the great gift card offers that Costco and other warehouse stores offer for booking travel through them.  However, if you want your reservation serviced, good luck!  They can’t afford to have agents service the reservations as they are giving away nearly all of the commission!  The same can be said about agencies that pay incredibly high onboard credits.  What are they paying their agents?  From past experience, I can say that if you don’t pay your agents what they are worth for the job they have to do, they won’t do it.  If service is not important, by all means, search for the best offer and book it.

I have worked with clients who have traveled frequently, understand how to book their own, yet choose to use my services.  When something goes wrong, they don’t panic, they call me and I take care of it.  They understand they are not getting the highest onboard credit or other perks for booking with me, yet they still come back and still refer their friends and family to me.  All of my agents can say the same thing.  This is because service is still important to people.

One thing I will caution you on is agents who rely on the laurels of the agency to make themselves out to be experts.  In one of the Facebook groups I belong to, someone asked a question about Disney Cruise Line and how something onboard would work.  An agent that works for an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner was asked to answer the question.  His answer was completely wrong, but he said it as an authority.  The person asking felt there was no reason to wait for another answer as it was obviously correct, no doubt because he worked for an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner.

Like my examples with the department stores, in travel there are various types of agencies and agents you will encounter.  Since the travel is basically the same, you are looking for the best service and the knowledge of the travel product you are buying.  Why settle for less?  Our agents don’t just “know Disney”, they have experienced it, they study it and continually learn more about it so they can pass that knowledge on to you.  They know the “fine tuning” that is needed for each individual client.  This isn’t a cookie cutter, one size fits all business.  Travel On A Dream is an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner and our agents working with Disney vacations are all graduates of the College of Disney Knowledge, have experienced Disney destinations many times and want to be your travel consultant.

Happy Birthday ToaD (and Tripp)

June 20, 2010 we booked our very first reservation as Travel On A Dream.  Three years later, we are still going strong, stronger than ever, thanks to all of you.  Thousands of cruises and travel packages later we have grown from just a dream of mine to ten agents.  We cannot thank you enough for putting your faith and trust in us to take care of your travel plans.  Your personal bookings and your referrals of us to your friends and families mean more than words can say.

thanks-so-much-frogs

Referrals mean the world to us.  When you go to a restaurant and the service is sub-par, you don’t tell your friends to go there.  In fact, you tell them NOT to go there.  When you refer people to us, you are saying that not only were you happy with the service, you are willing to put your reputation on the line by telling others about it.  To thank you for these referrals, we offer referral rewards and have from the beginning.  We have paid out hundreds of referral credits and gift cards.

Double Referral Credits!

As a birthday gift to all of you, we are doubling our referral credits for the next month!  For all new referrals with bookings deposited by July 20, 2013, we will give you double referral credit.  For example, if your friend books a $2500 package, on your next trip booked with Travel On A Dream after they travel, you normally will receive either a $25 gift card or onboard credit.  With our double referral credit promotion, you will receive $50!

We also love groups!  As you may know, we have cruise groups going to the Bahamas this October, Southern Caribbean next October and Alaska in August, 2014.  There is still room for more so come join us!

Groups Bonus!

As another birthday gift to all of you, any new groups booked and deposited before July 20, 2013 of at least five rooms will receive a bonus.  Groups can be organized tours, airfare/hotel packages, cruises or Disney packages.  The group coordinator will receive double onboard credit for their cabin on the cruise or $100 gift card for packages.  Adventures by Disney packages may qualify for an additional bonus.  Get your group of friends or family together and contact us today!  Please note, this cannot be combined with the referral credits for the group leader, but your agent will give you the better of the two promotions.

Itinerary Planning Changes

Over the years we have handled a variety of travel plans for you.  We have done so in many cases without a service fee to you.  We want to continue to serve you without fees and will do so with most cruises, tours and Disney Destinations.

Effective June 20, 2013, Super Saver rates on Carnival and any stand-alone hotel and airfare reservations will be subject to a service fee.  For one night stays or airfare only reservations, the fee will be $50.  For longer stays or Carnival Super Saver rates, the fee will be $100 per room/cabin.  More detailed vacation planning may be subject to higher fees.  We are finding that we are working harder for the great rates and many of the travel suppliers are putting limitations on what they will pay us (with many of the lowest rates, they won’t pay at all).  These fees will allow us to continue to give you top quality service.

Thank you!

Thank you again for helping us achieve this milestone.  Without your support (and bookings!), we wouldn’t be here today.  We look forward to celebrating many more birthdays with all of you.

The Boss Is Away Sale

I’m not kidding…hurry, she will be back soon!

Tracy and her husband are celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary in Disneyland this week so we thought what better time to offer you a special deal!  You can receive double referral credit when you refer your friends or family to Travel On A Dream in general or any agent of Travel On A Dream other than Tracy (if you refer them to Tracy, you will still receive referral credit, but at the regular amount).  Booking must be confirmed between May 20th and May 27th with a deposit.  Not only do you receive the double referral credit but with eligible bookings, your friends and family will receive a $25 onboard credit or gift card payable at their time of travel!  Bookings must be $1500 or higher to qualify for the bonus $25 offer.

Hey, she is on vacation she shouldn’t be working anyways, right?  So let’s talk travel!  Email me at deb@travelonadream.com for any questions or more information, or simply submit a quote request at Travel On A Dream.

Happy Anniversary Tracy and Bill!

Two Exciting New Facebook Groups

Today we are launching two new Facebook groups for our Travel On A Dream fans and followers.  The first is a group for everyone to mix and mingle!  This group can be found at http://www.facebook.com/groups/4ToaD/ and is an open group for everyone to share and get to know each other.  This is a place for you to ask questions, help others, get to know others and just have fun.  Everyone is welcome as long as you are respectful to each other.  You are welcome to read on the group, however, if you wish to post, you will need to join the group.  This is an open forum so profanity is not allowed.  No solicitation please.  Violators will be removed from the group.

Our second group is a closed group, however anyone is welcome to join.  We have been enjoying participating in 5k races but more importantly following many of you in your races.  It is for this reason that we have decided to form a Travel On A Dream running team.   Of course, walkers are welcome (they have to or I couldn’t be a member!).  Our team will work on getting team entries for various runDisney events.  This will help those of you who don’t get your individual entry in before the races fill up.

To kick off this group, we have started a Facebook group and have our very own logo for the team.  What do you think?

ToaDRunners

Initially, membership in the group will be complimentary.  Any group events however may have an entry fee.  The Facebook group is a closed group, but anyone is welcome to join and all members can add other members too.  Check it out http://www.facebook.com/groups/ToaDRunners/.  This group page will be a great place to find out who is participating in various events (not just Disney!), get to know each other and help each other with their challenges and goals.  This is a closed group which means that non-members can see who is in the group but cannot see the content posted without joining the group.  While it is not open for everyone to see, we still request no profanity or solicitation.

We hope to see you in one of our groups and to meet you at upcoming events!

Nobody Ever Wins That Stuff… Or Do They?

Editor’s Note:  Have you ever looked at a contest entry and said “No one ever wins those” and tossed it aside?  Today’s blog is from Angela Wilson, someone I admire for entering and winning sweepstakes.  Here is her story.

My husband and I really enjoy traveling to new places together. Unfortunately, we don’t always have the budget to travel as much as we would like.  We have been lucky and persistent enough over the past few years however to travel for free, or nearly free by winning travel related sweepstakes.  With the help of sweepstakes wins and help from our travel agent Tracy at Travel On A Dream, 2012 was The Year of Travel for our household.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all of our friends, clients and fans (many of you fall into multiple categories)!  We have enjoyed helping you plan your vacations in 2012 and look forward to planning many more trips with you in 2013 and beyond.  We wish you and yours a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2013.

We have a lot to look forward to in 2013.  We will have a couple group sailings – on Oasis of the Seas in April and the Disney Magic in October.  There is still room for you to join us!  We also are looking to begin offering more to you in 2013.  From new promotions to new travel vendors, we plan to be able to offer an even more complete package for your travel needs.

We always encourage travel insurance, especially when traveling out of the country.  In the past we have offered insurance through the travel vendor or recommended checking online for alternative options, but in 2013 Travel On A Dream will start offering independent travel insurance for you as well.  We are excited to be able to offer this to you.

Happy New Year!
