Let the Memories Begin…

“Let the Memories Begin” is Disney’s theme for 2011.  As part of this promotion, Disney is going to use photos/videos of ACTUAL PARK GUESTS. (Insert yawn.)

Starting in January 2011, Disney PhotoPass photographers will take pix of the guests throughout the day. In the evening, up to 500 images will be projected with accompanying music on the “it’s a small world”  facade at Disneyland and on “Cinderella’s Castle” in Disney World.  I don’t know about you, but I foresee even more people cramming themselves into an already tight space trying to get a glimpse of themselves.

Another aspect of this promotion is using  guest photos/videos/stories in Disney’s advertising. You can submit your’s on this site:  http://memories.disneyparks.disney.go.com/#/landing

The “Let the Memories Begin” theme is pretty short on details. As a result, the initial response has been underwhelming. Let’s hope that there’s more to it than this.

Disney Dream – Remy surcharge

We just found out this morning that the surcharge for Remy, the upscale adult only restaurant on the Disney Dream will be $75 per person. This amount will be added to your shipboard account. Platinum Castaway Club members will be able to make reservations online for the maiden voyage of the Disney Dream starting on September 28, 2010 at 12:01 am if their reservations are paid in full.

What do you think about this amount? Is it worth it? Will you be going?

Restaurant Deals

Before heading to your vacation destination, check out dining certificate deals at www.restaurant.com. While they always have $25 certificates for $10, you can usually get them for 60 to 80 percent less. (With the 80% discount, you’re only spending $2 for a $25 certificate!)

We’ve saved some big bucks in Vegas, New York City and Annapolis, MD.  Traveling to Disney? House of Blues in Downtown Disney is one of the participating restaurants as well as every restaurant at the Swan/Dolphin resorts. (I’m going to have to get one for Bluezoo.)

Each restaurant has its own restrictions so be sure to read the “fine print”.  Most all of them tack on an 18% gratuity. Even if the tip comes to $25, you only paid anywhere from $10 to $2 for it.

Once you sign up, you can expect the special discount offers to start rolling out.
